Spread Your Wings – Creative Zone and Large Bird Installation at Peterborough Celebrates Festival 2023!
Working with Orton Makers & lead artist Rose Croft, Spread Your Wings has been developing, getting ready to hatch at #PeterboroughCelebrates festival in May. (Can you tell we’re loving the bird puns)!
From March this year, four artists have been leading workshops, gaining inspiration from groups, schools and individuals from Eye to Hampton. They have turned these conversations, doodles and colours into designs for 8 birds that represent an area of the city, including people’s ideas of paradise or messages of hope. All ideas and colour combinations have been explored as the aim was to make them super colourful, brighter than a flamingo or flashier than a peacock.
.
So far, the birds have been made in collaboration with around 250 people, including WestRaven community garden, Eye Youth Club, Millfield Carnival Club, Lapwing residential, Jailbirds at HMP Peterborough, Korp Academy in Hampton, Orton Makers, at least four Orton Schools, Queen Katharine Academy, and many more in a city-wide competition.
This flock have been lovingly brought to life by Amanda Rigby, Jason Duckmanton, Korp, Rose Croft and Ann Bellamy, and they will be nesting in amongst the Peterborough Celebrates festival, dotted around the space to brighten up the festival. They will hopefully make you smile because they have lots of colour, plus some gorgeous and funny images and words. They are big enough to stand with and take photos and you will be able to share in the love and pride that has gone into them.
On the 20th of May at the festival, Peterborough Presents, artists Rose Croft and Korp will be leading drop-in workshops where you can either make your own bird to take take away or a pair of wings to flaunt at the festival. They will be in the creative zone and Geo dome. Plus, there will be a ‘doodle’ bird for people to draw and create on.
If you visit this aviary of art, then please do tag @peterboroughpresents and share any photos or love with us. We’d love to hear your thoughts too.
See you on the 20th May from 11am!
