Wanted: Workshop Leaders for Westwood Summer Club!

Calling all artists who have facilitation experience!

Peterborough Presents are looking for x4 creatives with experience of working with young people to run a creative workshop for young people in Westwood/Ravensthorpe.

We are looking for four different workshops led by four different artists. We are looking for creatives who can deliver exciting, engaging activity with young people during their summer holiday club on Monday afternoons in July/August 2022.

Key Information:

Each session will run 1pm – 3:30pm at Westraven Community Garden and are for children/young people (11-19yrs) taking part in Cross Keys Homes summer club. Dates of the workshops are:

Monday 25 July

Monday 1 August

Monday 15 August

Monday 22 August

Address: Westraven Community Garden, Hartwell Way, Westwood, Peterborough

Each artist will be paid a fee of £200 plus a £50 materials budget.

Workshop Aims & Themes:

Workshops may be in any artform or genre. Please note that the venue for the workshops is a community garden, so access to tech/power is limited, although a wifi connection is available.

We don’t want to limit young people’s access to tech however, so if you have an idea for a workshop that involves digital artforms, please get in touch with charley.genever@neneparktrust.org.uk or call/text 07435 985935 and we can chat further about your idea and whether it is feasible.

Find out more about Westraven here and watch a lovely film which tells you more about the garden’s facilities here.

The wider aim of the summer club is to promote healthy eating, and continue to provide children/young people with healthy meals over the summer holidays, especially those who may not otherwise have access. Workshops may also include the theme of food / healthy eating, but this is not essential. The main thing is to provide young people with an opportunity to have fun, try something new or different, and create something that they can keep (either individually or as a group) that they can be proud of.

Who We Are Looking For:

The residency is open to artists and creative organisations of all disciplines including visual art, street art, poetry, music, dance, theatre, photography, and film. We are looking for artists/creatives who have some experience of leading activity within a youth group environment or similar. Creatives must be confident in designing and leading activity which is suitable for a variety of skill levels. We also ask that creatives embody our following principles:

– We continue to be relevant and welcoming

– We are responsive, exciting and experimental

– We reflect and openly share our learning

– Our programmes are built on trust and respect for our participants, partners and artists

– We take the time to listen and respond to the communities we work with

– We recognise and celebrate the existing skills and knowledge held within the communities we work with

Peterborough Presents is committed to championing diversity in all its forms, particularly those who are underrepresented or undersupported in the arts. We welcome the unique contributions that artists from all walks of life can bring in terms of their education, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and personal beliefs and opinions.

We welcome applications from artists who have a connection to the Westwood/Ravensthorpe areas, but this is not essential. A recent DBS is ideal but not essential.

How To Apply

Applications will be assessed by a panel of young people, working with the Peterborough Presents team. We advise all applicants to refrain from using jargon and terminology which isn’t easily understood by a non-specialist audience.

Deadline for applications is Sunday 4 July at 5pm. Artists will be notified by 11 July at the latest. If you have any problems filling in this form or have any questions, please get in touch with Charley at charley.genever@neneparktrust.org.uk

Please apply via the jotform link below. The application form asks you to summarise your recent experience working with young people/in a similar setting, and to summarise your workshop idea.

We also welcome applications via video/audio formats. Please send your application to Charley via the email address above.
