The Eye Open exhibition took place on the 4th and 5th November at the Leeds Hall in Eye. The exhibition showcased the huge creativity of Eye in all its forms, It featured over 70 pieces of artwork, from watercolour, woodwork, crochet to pottery. All of these were  made by Eye residents who exhibited work that for them had meaning or inspired them. Some of the Eye makers had never shown their work before too, which was very exciting.

Earlier this year, Peterborough Presents asked people from the village which projects they would like to see happen in the village. An exhibition showcasing the creative work of local residents was their top choice and this was seen in the numbers of audience with over 250 people visiting the exhibition over two days. Many of the visitors were from Eye but many came from outside of the village too. 

Three local artists, Amy Prebble, Steve Dytham and Gabriela Gentile from Eye were commissioned to create new work, especially for the Open. These artists  also led public workshops, exploring wild clay, paper craft and even leading a Doggy photo shoot. Amy used wild clay actually extracted from the area to create a small selection of vases, and it was the first item that people saw. Gabriela made a dancing couple from paper that lit up and featured elements of the sea. Finally Steve’s work meant that the exhibition had lots of doggy visitors, who came with their owners to see their photo and to collect copies too. There were lots of dog cuddles and happy tails. 

Lots of other budding creatives enjoyed the doodle station, creating their own work. Many of the artists were at the exhibition with lots of chances to socialise and talk to people about their work and how it was made. All of this over a cuppa too. 

Peterborough Presents can’t wait to see and support other Eye Opens, so keep your eyes peeled for more about that in 2024.

Can I sell my work?

If you want to sell your work, you can let us know when you go to submit your work.

We will ask you to put a price on your work.

If someone wishes to buy your work, we will take their details and pass them on to you so that you can arrange this with them after the exhibition. 

Will there be a private view?

Everyone who submits a piece will be invited to a private view of the exhibition on Friday 3rd November, 6.30 – 8pm. 

Who will curate the exhibition?

The exhibition will be curated by the Peterborough Presents team and a representative of Peterborough Artists Open Studios. 

When will I need to drop off and collect my art work?

You will be required to drop off you work either on Thursday 2nd November 6 – 7.30pm

or Friday 3rd November between 9am – 10.30am.

You will be required to collect your work either on Sunday 5th November between 4 – 6pm

or Monday 6th November between 9 – 10.30am.
