About This Exhibition

(This exhibition is now finished).

n exhibition by artist Fae Kilburn and d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent (DDN) people in Peterborough.

Made as a series of fun & creative workshops with Fae, the exhibition celebrated the perspectives of DDN individuals. The artworks also challenged stigma and raised awareness about their lived experiences.

This was a free, powerful and thought-provoking exhibition of tactile vinyls, prints, zines, portraits, and an installation of chairs!

Quiet Viewing Times – was Tuesdays between 12 – 2pm

The front of the building is mainly large glass windows either side of Fae and aglass door behind Fae, although the exhibition is hard to see from the outside.

Inside the Reasonable Adjustment Exhibition, the image is of mainly of the white wall with colourful art, quotes and Zines on it. Their are exhibition chairs to the far right and a bollard to the left and you can just see some of the floor at the bottom of the image.

In the Reasonable Adjustment Exhibition, its an image of an old broken black wheelchair in the corner of the room. Its all black metal and black plastic and black seating with a quote written on the chair by a person with a lived experience of a disability.

At least 7 people mostly wearing coats or jackets, are standing in the Reasonable Adjustment Exhibition looking at the art, quotes and pictures in the space and on the white walls.

An accessible art exhibition that was suitable for all. You could touch, view, and experience a collection of artworks made by Fae and workshop participants.

All were welcome to spend as much time as they wanted interacting with the exhibition. This exhibition wasn’t like a normal gallery exhibition, as you were actively invited to touch the art, even sit on it!

All the artworks in the exhibition were inspired by what it’s really like to live as a d/Deaf, disabled, and/or neurodivergent person. The exhibition was decorated with powerful messages of frustration, pain, joy, and hope.

Access Info

The exhibition space was on the ground floor and has level access from Long Causeway. The entrance was only accessible from the street, you did not have to enter Queensgate to visit.

– We road-tested the entrance and know it was accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, but we know each chair model is different! Please get in touch if you would like the measurements of the entrance doorway.

– An accessible, gender neutral toilet was available for guests

– Assistance dogs were welcome

– The work was audio described

– There were friendly staff present at all times

– Masks welcome

– Static lights at all times (no flashing lights)

– You were welcome to bring your own stim toys, ear defender headphones, and any other sensory supports too.

– There was a quiet space available at the back of the exhibition with a sensory box. In the box there are a selection of stim toys and ear defender headphones.

The entrance to the exhibition is behind two large pillars between Costa and Boots.

Parking & Public Transport

There is no parking directly outside the exhibition.

There are Pay & Display parking spaces, including for electric vehicles, along St Peter’s Road.

There are a few disabled blue badge parking spaces opposite the old town hall and in the Car Haven car park.

The venue is a 10 min walk from the bus station. You can either walk through Queensgate or along Westgate Road.

About Fae

Fae Kilburn is a Midlands based artist and arts facilitator, specialising in printmaking with a Masters in Fine Art.

Creating disability awareness is an important part of her practice. As is incorporating the narrative of other disabled people in her art and making her workshops and participatory events accessible and inclusive.

Fae will be delivering a series of art workshops in Peterborough that celebrate the perspectives of disabled d/Deaf and Neurodivergent individuals and also explore the barriers faced.

These narratives will be incorporated into a final piece of artwork created by Fae and displayed alongside the participants’ work.
