What will we be doing?
Make stories, poems, statements that describe your experience of being from the DDN community. Help John to answer the question, ‘What has Changed? in relation to the Disability Discrimination Act and the rights of people who are DDN. Chat, experiment with words and be part of a film and exhibition.
Come and join Film Maker John Clark for a fun accessible lab, where poet and proclaimed mad scientist, Sandy Wardrop is taking over with some word based experiments that will be more Wordle than Wordsworth. If writing is not your thing then tell us your answers to the question ‘What has changed’? And be part of a film and exhibition that will include your experiences. Oh and be prepared to have a brew and relax too.
Beginner friendly, no previous experience necessary.
This Word Lab is part of a project called Reasonable Adjustment 2.0. The aim of the project is to mark the 30th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act, and 15th anniversary of the Equality Act. We are using these anniversaries to make artworks that capture honest feelings and experiences of what it’s like to be Deaf, Disabled, and/or Neurodivergent (DDN).
The workshop will be a welcoming space. We want to use this project to raise awareness of DDN people’s lives, give platform to your voices, and offer a place to share your experiences (good and bad) through creativity.
What to expect
A relaxed, inclusive, chatty and creative workshop. Suitable for all skill levels, for anyone aged 16+.
Expect a friendly atmosphere with group,1:1 discussions and fun wordy based activities that you will be supported through.
All materials will be provided.
The Word Lab will be a safe space to be honest, be creative, have fun, and share experiences.
About John
John Clark is a filmmaker who aspires to write and direct films of his own and of others, drawn from life experiences and observations. His recently professionally credited BFI-funded debut short Snapshot does so, being based on his experiences with unemployment as an autistic adult.
John finds the world and people around him fascinating. Often his own and other’s experiences become part of his work. Having lived experience as a neurodivergent adult has always meant that this has influenced his creativity too.
John will be presenting a set of ‘RAD Labs’ – an experimental session, where everyone’s creativity and lived, experience will help to produce the final artwork. Each lab will ask, ‘What’s Changed’? & there will be lots of different creative experiments to capture people’s honest responses.

Access information for the word lab
- The workshop will be expertly guided by neuro divergent Artist John Clark and Poet Sandy Wardrop
- The workshop will be seated on standard plastic/classroom chairs with no arm rests. You are welcome to bring your own chair if you prefer.
- You will be given a name badge sticker when you arrive.
- Limited spaces available
- We will have a box of focus toys and Ear Defenders, or feel free to bring your own.
- The Peterborough Presents team will also be there to support if you need. You are welcome to go at your own pace and take breaks whenever you need.

There will be someone to greet you from the Peterborough Presents team when you arrive. The workshop location is immediately on your right as you walk through the front door.
No food and drink to be brought in from outside (unless needed for medical reasons) – we will provide free refreshments from the Angle Gaming Lounge menu.
The room has a relaxed, DIY vibe, with black curtains pinned around the edges of the walls, and fairy lights on the ceiling. We will be bringing additional room lights so that you can clearly see the interpreter and the activity.
The chairs are similar to dining room chairs without arm rests. Feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
The room is split up by several scaffolding poles, which will be taped with tape to make them identifiable.
The room has no windows.
The entrance to Angle Gaming Lounge is on Ashworth Court, which is accessed from Paston Lane. There are 8 parking bays operated on a first, come first serve basis.

The building is a bright orange colour with large character illustrations painted outside.
The entrance to Angle Gaming Lounge is on Ashworth Court, which is accessed from Paston Lane.
There are 8 parking bays directly outside the front door. Parking spots are first come, first served.
The door is on the right as you face the building.
3 hour parking at Morrisons Car Park, which is a 5-10 min walk. Use the pedestrian crossing at the entrance to Morrisons by the petrol station.
