In brief…

Peterborough Presents and 62 Gladstone Street are looking to pay a Peterborough-based writer to write and perform a piece of creative writing for a performance as part of Refugee Week 2024.

We are looking for a person who identifies as having a refugee, asylum-seeking, first generation migrant, or displaced background to write and perform a poem / monologue / short story for a public performance for Refugee Week 2024.

Deadline: Sunday 28 April 2024

An overview of the brief is offered below but please do access the full brief for all of the details. This is available as a word document or audio files. Please scroll down to find the relevant download buttons.

What you will do

You will create a 10-minute performance inspired by your own stories and others. You could choose to write about your experiences of migration / asylum seeking, or something different. We see this as an opportunity to platform your voice, and an opportunity for you to share whatever you want to say as part of Refugee Week 2024.

We would like some of the writing to explore the idea that Peterborough has been a welcoming place for refugees throughout history. We will partner you with local charity H.E.L.P where you will have the option to run a creative writing workshop if you are confident to do so. Or you will spend some time chatting to people and using those conversations as inspiration.

What you will get

You will be paid £350. Please let us know when you apply if you are currently unable to receive income.

You will receive mentoring and development support for your writing from the 62 Gladstone Street team and a mentoring opportunity with poet lisa luxx to develop your performance skills.

You will perform your work at the wonderful Key Theatre alongside national headliners.

Performance date: Thursday 20 June, 6pm at the Key Theatre, Peterborough

There will be the option to perform again at a sharing of Aisha Zia’s ‘Project O’ in August 2024.

Our briefs below are hosted on a google drive. When you click on the buttons to access the brief, you can download them by clicking “File” on the top left on the screen, and clicking download.
