A day of fun and making for all ages! A bit like a craft fair… but less about buying, and more about making!
Showcasing local organisations, groups, businesses and individuals, each stall will run free activities for people to have a go at.
You will get to make all sorts of cultural arts & crafts items to be proud of, that you’ll get to keep and take home. You’ll learn some new skills, as well as get to know the brilliant community organisations in the area.
Interested in running a Makers Stall?
Could you be one of the 10 community groups / organisations in the Millfield and Gladstone areas to run a Millfield Makers stall?
We will provide you with up to £150 of materials to cover the costs of running your creative activity. You will provide the staff / volunteers to lead the activity on the day. You’ll get to raise awareness about your organisation / group to hundreds of people in the PE1 area.
The activity on your stall can be anything you like, as long as it is creative and involves making in some way! Our team will support you in coming up with ideas for creative activities if you’re not sure what kind of activity to run.
At previous making events we’ve had slime making, seed planting, drawing monsters, Free Palestine badge-making, suncatcher making, sewing and hand-decorating textiles, a photo booth, and loads more.
An easy way to help come up with ideas is thinking about the art-forms that fit with your community group / organisations aims. For example if you’re the NHS and you want to raise awareness about the importance of exercise, picking an active activity like drumming or dancing to run a making activity around makes sense. If you’re a cultural group – what cultural traditions and hobbies do you have that you’d like to share with other communities?

What to Expect – info for the public
Millfield Makers is a family-friendly day full of fun and making! Expect to get hands on, interacting with the stallholders and having a go at different making activities. We will announce what the stalls are going to be on our social media in the weeks before the event.
Activities will be appropriate for all ages (some may not be suitable for under 3s!) and you can take part as a whole family or let the children run wild. Adults who come on their own or with other adults are equally allowed to join in – making is for all ages!!
Expect to wander round at your own pace in a lively atmosphere, drop in to any of the Makers stalls that take your fancy. You’ll get to keep whatever you make!
A donations refreshments stall will also be there for vital snacks and drinks to keep your creative juices flowing.

Dates and times
The event runs from 11am – 3pm on Saturday 24 August. You can arrive any time with in the opening hours and you can stay for as little or as long as you want.

Parking is extremely limited so we encourage everyone to walk / use public transport if they are able. Limited parking may be available on Lincoln Road and the surrounding residential streets of York Road, Northfield Road, Rock Road.
There are two disabled parking spaces directly outside the venue. Please get in touch with us in advance so that we can ensure these are reserved for you.
There are 2 bus stops directly outside the venue – Rock Park and Lincoln Road. Both stops are for the number 1 (Town/Orton Wistow) routes. Please see Stagecoach’s website for more information.
About the building
The building is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible, gender neutral toilet. Our Access Coordinator Julie tested the facilities and she mentioned the door is a little heavy and stiff. We’ll have volunteers nearby if you need any assistance.
We will have a roving BSL interpreter who will be able to give you guided tours of the activities. Charley and Sarah from Peterborough Presents are have also learnt BSL up to Level 2.
We will have a designated “quiet space”, ear defenders, and focus/stim toys available.
Most activities will take place on trestle tables (the standard fold-out ones you get at most community centres) and chairs. There will be seats available at every stall and also throughout the building. There are seats with arm and back rests available.
