We’re proud to announce that Peterborough Presents and Eye are part of a new two-year project to improve the lives of young people in Eye and Peterborough, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.
Eye Gets Green is a club for young people (12 – 16 years) from Eye or nearby villages, where they can get creative and be green at the same time. It’s a set of six creative workshops/sessions. These next set of sessions feature drawing and photography.
Eye Outdoor Exhibition:
Over the last six week series, the young people will explored mark making, drawing to scale, memory drawing, photography techniques, photographing and drawing on location. They created work that feeds into an outdoor exhibition in Eye. Each week was led by illustrator, artist and photographer Emily Bowers.
Making a Mural Sessions:
This next set of four creative workshops/sessions will be focusing on the design and installation of a mural/ outdoor art/ street improvement in Eye village. Through the sessions, the young people will explore their creativity, collaborate with others, experiment with scaling up their artwork, and help to decide on a location for the mural. They will also decide on the final design and will be invited to help paint or install the mural too.
Each week is led by illustrator, artist and photographer Emily Bowers. All materials will be provided.

What else we’ve already done:
Over the summer we held 6 different workshops with different artists and different activities as taster sessions to see what the local young people wanted to try and helped shaped what we’re doing next. They got to try out spray painting with stencils, creating 3D sculptures with clay, story writing, seed planting and paper crafting and feedback on anything they wanted to delve deeper into learning and trying next time, which is where the idea for film making came from.
What’s the wider project about?
This project Building Healthier Green Futures (BHGF) project will support young people aged 11-25 in Peterborough, to develop new skills and create connections with nature and local greenspaces. This ambitious new partnership project is led by Nene Park Trust and involves Froglife and Westraven Cross Keys Homes Community Café and Garden (supported by Cross Keys Homes) and (Us) Peterborough Presents
BHGF will support young people to reach their potential, providing a programme of training and skills development and opportunities co-designed by young people, as well as supporting improved health and wellbeing in both the young people and their communities. Through longer term engagement, the project will provide young people with opportunities to develop their skills as ’Green Mentors’, as well as signposting them on to further opportunities.
Building on activities already happening in partnership with these organisations, such as the Nene Park Trust Young Ranger programme for 11–17-year-olds and the 10-week work experience programme for 18–24-year-olds not currently in Education, employment or training, BHGF will test and learn from different models of community engagement and develop and share good practice. The project aims to deliver 25 group sessions to up to 500 young people across Peterborough.
