About This Project
We have been working and playing in the neighbourhood of Westwood as one of our chosen communities.
You may have heard of our infamous ‘WestWoof’ gathering? Or maybe even our Westwood’s Got Talent event? This have been just some of the goings-on in the last year as we got co-creative in the neighbourhood.
But what’s to come? Well, there will be more, but for now here’s a little update:Â Our team at PP are currently chatting with Westwood students mainly through Breakfast Clubs to find out what young people might be interested in when it comes to creativity and arts. This programme will develop through 2023-24. Watch this space for more info soon.
The last round of events for ‘Westwood Encounters’ was all about having fun and being playful whilst connecting with the outdoor spaces. Local residents from Westwood came together to choose a brilliant team of artists & creatives who then brought some feel-good, fun, and tasty activities between May and July 2023.
There were loads of interesting activities from an ‘After school Paint Sessions’, ‘Fathers Day Scavenger Hunt’ and a ‘Community Party’. We met so many amazing local folk, made some wonderful memories and got to try something different!
Here’s some pics for you to feast on from these previous events:
After School Paint Sesh
This one was for bored teens on their walk home from school. Nikki and Keith created an after school paint sesh with a twist, featuring giant paper aeroplane making and massive painting/doodling.Â
Father’s Day Scavenger Hunt
This one was for the dads and families to complete together! They went hunting around the streets of Westwood to find clues and puzzle pieces that created a special momento to take home.
Community Party!
We had the BEST day. Together we enjoyed a picnic at the park, a giant cake sculpture (co-created by the community), a cake parade, a kid’s talent show, games, design your own baseball cap, healthy snack zone, rock painting, community poem and more. What a buzz!Â
This photo is of our Westwood Encounters artists having a wander about the estate. From left to right we have: Keith Hopewell, Nikki Goldup, Sam Roddan, Laura Collins, and Ryan Bailey.
Keith and Nikki ran our after-school pop up painting sesh and giant paper aeroplane making.
Sam created the scavenger hunt and cake masterpiece.
Laura and Ryan are creatives from the area who are just starting out in their careers. They worked together on a poetry film all about happiness, using pebble painting. You can see the film and poem by clicking on the link below.
