About This Event

Free to take part!

Pick up some upcycling tips and tricks while helping us create decorations for Millfield Festival! You will be guided by the wonderful Ramona Zadissa in the art of taking old clothes, curtains, bedding, and assorted materials, and turning them into something beautiful and functional!

We will be making customised tote bags using a range of recycled and re-used materials. After the workshop the tote bags will be used as decorations at Millfield Festival! They will be attached together like bunting to be proudly on display at Millfield Festival on Saturday 5th August 2023.

After the festival you will then be able to collect your tote bag to keep, or gifted to someone in the local community.

Suitable for all sewing abilities. There will be sewing machines and hand-stitching, fabric pens, and a range of textile accessories.

The Upcycling Sewing workshop is on:
Wednesday 21 June, 10:30am – 12:30pm
Gladstone Connect, The Allama Iqbal Centre, 157 Cromwell Road

Limited places – booking required

Please bring any old fabric or clothes if you have any. Bedding, curtains, scraps of fabric, ribbons, buttons… we especially love fabric that represents your community or your identity!

What to expect

Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We’ll provide free tea/coffee and snacks.

Artist Ramona Zadissa will lead the workshop, taking you through step-by-step the creation of a tote bag from materials, then you will get to be creative in customising it with a variety of materials.
